If the thought of planning a wedding creates stress in your life, then maybe it is time the two of you eloped. Elopements are romantic, intimate and offer flexibility that comes with less planning and less expense.
However, eloping does not mean you have to forego all the trimmings and grandeur of a full-scale wedding. The team at w+w can help you create your dream day, regardless of guests and large-scale fanfare. We are bursting with ideas to make your elopement stunningly beautiful.
With just the two of you and a celebrant, or a few friends and family, it means you can really get creative with your wedding location. We love:
- cute alleyways (think graffic laneways)
- adorable cafes and gourmet restaurants
- secluded seaside bays and stunning cliff tops
- charming country estates and rural properties
- chic industrial buildings and public spaces (art galleries, rooftops)
A location that holds sentimental value, a quirky space or one that is a luxury, secluded destination can make the day really special.
STYLE & FORM
Remember your elopement can take any shape or form you desire. It could be a grand affair with lavish styling or an intimate soiree with simple elegant touches. Taking time to style your elopement allows you as a couple to express your love for each other in a unique way, incorporating elements of shared passions (eg. fine art, a love of travel, interesting architecture) into the design. We like to view elopements as glamourous impromptu celebrations.
Time of day is completely flexible – choosing a non-traditional wedding time only adds to the spontaneity and excitement of the event. Take advantage of a full moon or stunning sunrise, a long lunch or an evening dinner nuptial – any day of the week! Eloping on a weekday will also save money.
Decide what items are important to you and prioritise your money towards them. Amazing flowers, your wedding attire, delicious food to celebrate and a photographer to capture it all are essentials.
NUTS & BOLTS
Unless you plan eloping in Las Vegas, spontaneous elopement is not an option in Australia. There are basic legal requirements to be addressed before your ‘I dos’. You must give your celebrant a notice of intent to marry at least 30 days prior to your intended wedding date. Check with the marriage registry for further details.
Our friends over at Pop-Up Weddings also know a thing or two about spontaneity, so check out their website for details on the next Pop-Up Wedding in your state.
